Surrendering A Pet

At Second Chance Companions, we understand that life can be unpredictable — circumstances change, challenges arise, and sometimes, despite our best intentions, we find ourselves unable to continue caring for a beloved pet.

Whether you’re facing financial hardship, housing difficulties, behavioural challenges, or major life changes, please know that you’re not alone. We are here to help — without judgment — and to ensure your pet has the best possible chance at a safe and loving future.

Our Approach

We believe that every animal deserves a second chance, and surrendering your pet to our care is the first step in that journey. By completing a surrender application, you’re helping us understand your pet’s background, personality, and needs so we can find them the most suitable foster or forever home.

What to Expect

When you submit a surrender application:
• Our team will carefully review the details you provide
• We will reach out to discuss the next steps, including any immediate concerns about your pet’s health or behaviour
• If we are able to assist, we’ll work with you to organise the safe transfer of your pet into our care

Please note that we operate through a foster care network, and placement is subject to availability. While we aim to respond promptly, we ask for your patience and understanding during this process.

A Judgment-Free Space

We know that surrendering a pet is never an easy decision. It takes courage, love, and responsibility to put their needs first. Our role is to support you through that process and ensure your pet receives the compassion and care they deserve.

If you’re no longer able to care for your animal, we encourage you to reach out. Together, we can help them take the next step toward a brighter future.

Last Litter Program

At Second Chance Companions, we are committed to breaking the cycle of accidental and repeat litters through education, desexing, and compassionate support. Our Last Litter Program is designed to assist pet owners who want to do the right thing by their animals — and help prevent future litters — by offering a pathway to rehome puppies or kittens responsibly while ensuring the mother is desexed.

How the Program Works

If your pet has had an unplanned litter and you’re seeking help, our Last Litter Program may be able to assist. Here’s how it works:

1. Submit an Enquiry
Reach out to us via email at ipswich.secondchancecompanions@gmail.com . Please include details about the litter (number, age, species, breed, etc.) and your pet (the mother).

2. Surrender the Litter
Upon approval, you will surrender the entire litter into our care. They will be placed into loving foster homes, receive veterinary care, and be adopted into carefully screened forever homes.

3. Desexing the Mother
Once the litter is in our care, we will organise a desexing appointment for the mother at one of our partnered veterinary clinics. This appointment is funded by the rescue and arranged following confirmation of the surrender.

Important Information
• This program is available to domestic pet owners only — not breeders.
• The mother’s desexing is only applicable if the entire litter is surrendered to Second Chance Companions.
• Acceptance into the program is subject to approval and based on our capacity at the time of enquiry.
• We are a volunteer-run rescue and rely on available foster homes and vet appointments. Your patience and understanding are appreciated.

Please note: Participation in the Last Litter Program is subject to availability and is not guaranteed. Approval is required.
